Hardanger Squares Sampler

This sampler is an advanced beginner piece. It is *NOT* suitable for aida fabric. It is primarily cross stitch with some specialty stitches sprinkled into some of the squares. It was stitched on 28 count hand dyed blue Jobelan and all references to number of strands of floss are based on this fabric. I used 2 strands of floss for the cross stitches and 3 strands for the satin stitches around the squares. The satin stitches for the hardanger were done in #8 perle cotton for more coverage you could use #5 instead. Just remember you will use more floss if you use more strands and will need more skeins than listed below. If you do not want to do the Hardanger you could always get charms for the centers of these squares. I would recommend a heart. They are readily available on the internet (see alternate picture with heart charms on the next page along with individual squares). This pattern is NOT compatible with pattern keeper because of the specialty stitches.
